NEXIUM 24HR is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic heart failure. It is a short-acting selective beta-adrenergic receptor agonist that works by relaxing the muscles in the heart's interstitial spaces, thereby providing additional blood flow to the heart's pumping organs. It can also be used to treat hypertension. Patients can expect to have a dose of 24 HR 15mg administered every 12 hours for a period of 1 week.
The recommended dose of NEXIUM is one (1) or two (2) 20mg tablets in a single, single-dose or a 2 or 3 mg dose. The dose should be taken on an empty stomach at the same time each day. The tablet should be swallowed whole with plenty of liquid. The tablet can be taken with or without food.
If you forget to dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose.
In case of an overdose, contact a hospital or emergency department immediately if symptoms worsen or include signs of allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or severe dizziness. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include facial swelling, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest pain, or fast or irregular heartbeat.

Patients with a history of heart failure or those who are at risk for heart failure should be advised to have their heart failure treated as they would be for the other conditions.
Pregnant or trying to become pregnant should be advised not to take this medicine. The drug may cause abnormalities of the teeth in children. The drug may also cause permanent yellow discoloration of the tooth or discoloration of the enamel in some cases. This effect can be permanent if this has occurred in patients on other medicines taken for other conditions. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not to consume alcohol during treatment. NEXIUM should not be used in the treatment of hereditary problems of the liver or kidneys. If the patient is taking other drugs, he should inform the doctor.
The active substance in NEXIUM is esomeprazole. Patients with esomeprazole allergy should be cautious.
